From aged copper and bronze patinas to refined painted and faux-metal effects, CSI Custom Paint creates distinctive finishes for architectural metal and decorative features throughout Carmel, Pebble Beach, Monterey, and Salinas. HANDCRAFTED PATINAS AND LAYERED EFFECTS
Custom finishes gain their character through controlled depth, movement, and light rather than flat, uniform color. We develop handcrafted patina techniques and layered metallic finishes that capture the timeless look of aged bronze, blackened steel, warm brass, and weathered copper. Physical sample boards are prepared in advance to calibrate tone, texture, and sheen before final application.
PROTECTIVE SYSTEMS FOR REAL-WORLD USE
Decorative appearance and durability must work together. Coastal salt air and moisture accelerate oxidation on exterior iron, steel, and aluminum. We specify heavy-duty barrier systems—including two-component epoxy primers and UV-stable urethane topcoats—to encapsulate the substrate, resist salt spray, and prevent rust from migrating beneath the decorative finish.
PREPARATION DESIGNED FOR THE METAL BENEATH IT
Long-term adhesion starts with rigorous preparation. We thoroughly degrease, mechanically grind, wire-brush, or sand-blast failing coatings and scale down to sound metal. Critical areas such as pickets, scrollwork, welds, hinges, and post bases receive meticulous mechanical preparation and conversion primers before finish coats are applied.

We identify the metal, existing coating, corrosion, exposure, and design goal to specify the proper system.
For custom decorative finishes, physical sample boards establish color, movement, texture, and sheen before application.
The surface is degreased, abraded, primed with corrosion inhibitors, layered, and sealed with protective clear coats.
We review the completed finish with you and provide specific cleaning and long-term maintenance instructions.
