Wood restoration
RESTORE THE CHARACTER. PROTECT THE WOOD.
Weathered or neglected exterior wood does not always need to be replaced. CSI Custom Paint restores decks, siding, fences, architectural beams, pergola structures, doors, and ceilings throughout Carmel, Pebble Beach, Monterey, and Salinas with a process tailored to the species, condition, previous finish, and coastal exposure. Our goal is to reveal the wood’s natural character and protect it with a finish designed to age gracefully.
THOUGHTFUL PREPARATION PRESERVES MORE OF THE WOOD
Sunlight and moisture break down surface fibers, turning cedar, redwood, and teak an ashen gray. Depending on the wood condition, our preparation includes controlled washing, chemical stripping, pH-balancing wood brighteners, spot repairs, and fine sanding to restore sound wood without damaging the soft grain. For detailed woodwork, we hand-strip profiles, rinse thoroughly, and verify moisture levels before any finish is applied.
FINISHES CHOSEN FOR BEAUTY AND EXPOSURE
Transparent, semi-transparent, and saturated finishes offer different levels of color depth, grain visibility, and UV defense. We specify premium micro-pure mineral systems—including Sansin DEC for high-traffic decks, Sansin ENS for exterior architectural woodwork, and Sansin Resolution for rich, yacht-grade finishes. These penetrating coatings saturate wood cells and allow moisture to escape naturally without blistering or peeling.
RESTORATION BEGINS WITH UNDERSTANDING THE SURFACE
Our restoration capabilities extend across horizontal and vertical wood: multi-tier redwood decks, cedar shingle and lap siding, exposed structural corbels, rafter tails, entry doors, and interior wood ceilings. We protect adjoining glass, masonry, hardware, weatherstripping, and landscaping—testing preparation methods on small sample areas before proceeding across the entire property.
OUR WOOD RESTORATION PROCESS
1. CONDITION ASSESSMENT
2. TESTING & PREPARATION
We identify the wood species, exposure, previous finish, deterioration, and desired result.
Controlled stripping, brightening, sanding, repairs, and physical sample areas are completed as required.
4. FINAL REVIEW & GUIDANCE
3. FINISH APPLICATION
The selected penetrating stain, oil, or protective coating is applied using methods suited to the wood grain.
We inspect the finish with you and provide routine care recommendations and anticipated maintenance intervals.
WOOD RESTORATION FAQS
-
Many surfaces can be significantly improved, but rot, severe erosion, deep staining, and prior coatings may limit the final appearance. We will set realistic expectations after inspecting the wood.
-
Yes. We work on exterior decks, siding, fences, and doors, as well as selected interior beams, ceilings, trim, and architectural woodwork.
-
Wood species, age, grain, repairs, and previous finishes all influence color absorption. Samples provide the best preview, but natural variation remains part of a genuine wood finish.
-
Maintenance depends on product, exposure, drainage, use, and orientation to the sun. Horizontal surfaces generally require attention sooner than protected vertical surfaces.
-
Yes, when appropriate. We work with premium wood-finishing systems—including Sansin micro-pure penetrating mineral finishes—and select products based on the surface, exposure, and maintenance goals.
